Sinach Background
Sinach originates from Ebonyi State in Eastern Nigeria and is the second of seven siblings.
Her journey in music began in 1989 when she sang for family and friends as a pastime, while also serving as a staff member and choir participant at Christ Embassy, the church led by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome. She pursued her education in physics and earned her degree from the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Nigeria.
In 2014, Sinach wed Joseph Egbu at her home church, Christ Embassy. On November 17, 2019, during the LIMA Awards, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome announced the birth of Sinach’s first child, Rhoda.
Sinach Career
As a child, Sinach dreamed of singing to large crowds but initially pursued music only by joining the choir while working as a church administrative staff. Before releasing her debut album, Chapter One (2008), she had already written many songs. Her song This Is Your Season won the Song of the Year award that same year.
Sinach adopted her stage name from her full name, Osinachi, for its simplicity and appeal. In 2016, she became the first recipient of the LIMA Songwriter of the Decade Award, celebrating her global impact on gospel music. Her songs, translated into multiple languages, are sung worldwide. That year, she also received the African Achievers’ Award for Global Excellence and, for the second consecutive time, won the Western Africa Artist of the Year award from Groove Awards in Kenya. Additionally, YNaija named her one of the Top 100 Influential Christians in Nigeria.
With over 200 songs to her name, Sinach continues to inspire many. Her hit track I Know Who I Am remains one of her most celebrated works.
