The world blood donor day is usually celebrated every 14th of June to appreciate blood donors and to also create more awareness on the benefits and needs to donate blood to save lives. The theme of this year’s blood donor day is ‘GIVE BLOOD AND KEEP THE WORLD BEATING’
In line with this The Rotary club of Asaba GRA, Rotary Club of Kwale Newdawn, in collaboration with the Nigerian Redcross society Delta Branch flagged off a blood donation drive in LGAs in Delta state. The program started with sensitizations in churches, mosques, radio programs/jingles and TV program. Fliers were distributed at various places. The grand finale was held at the department of Medical Laboratory Services, Federal Medical Center, Asaba and General Hospital Ekpan with the target of getting 100 pints of blood.
Donations of blood testing kits were made to the blood bank at FMC Asaba by The President, Rotary club of asaba GRA Sir. Edwin E. Ogidi Gbegbaje He emphasized on the need to donate blood especially to emergency cases, pregnant women who are in need of it, children and generally to those who can’t afford it.
As a great leader that he is, he started by donating blood after all necessary screening had been done followed by the Branch Secretary Nigerian Redcross society Delta branch Mr. Charles Arinomor and Mr Princewill.C. Olie who is the President Rotary Club of Kwale New Dawn. The Leaders emphasized on the word ‘The blood you give today might save yours tomorrow’
Lots of Rotarians, Redcross Volunteers and Individual donors all came out to donate blood to reach the required 100 pints of blood target.
Blood donation is still ongoing at FMC Asaba and Ekpan general hospital, Ekpan both in Delta state.
